Homes with grit, heart, and Atlanta soul.
Smart infill homes and studios now. ADUs when you’re ready.
What we build —
Studios — Backyard workspaces and creative rooms built to work hard every day.
ADUs — Flexible, future‑ready homes for family, rental, or what comes next.
Infill Homes — Small houses that respect the street, belong in the neighborhood, and are
designed to stay attainable.
All of it is built for real Atlanta living—thoughtful layouts, good light, and durable design that respects the land, the climate, and the people who live on it. Depending on the site, we use a mix of site‑built and panelized systems when they make sense.
Atlanta deserves homes and backyard spaces that work hard today and adapt for tomorrow-spaces that grow with families, honor neighborhoods, and keep people in the city they love.
How we build
Every lot in this city has its own rhythm—the trees, the slope, the neighbors, the light. We design and build with all of it in mind, creating infill homes, backyard studios, and future ADUs that fit the block, respect the street, and stay solid as life, weather, and needs change.
Clear steps, no surprises - straightforward pricing, timelines and communication so you always know whats happening
Design shaped by your lot - privacy, natural light and smart layouts tailored to Atlanta’s varied parcels.
A steady builder you can trust - durable materials, simple systems, and someone who shows up and stands behind their work.
Studios and ADU’s
Flexible, fast, and built with the same care as a home. Perfect for work, creativity, guests, or giving a little breathing room to a growing family. Designed to fit Atlanta lots without overwhelming them.
Future ADUs
Every lot you touch is planned with tomorrow in mind. Studios today, ADUs when the time is right — giving families room to adapt, earn, or stay rooted in the city they love.
Right‑Sized Infill Homes
Thoughtful homes shaped by the lot, the block, and the people who will live there. Light, privacy, and proportion come first — not square footage. Built with grit, heart, and Atlanta soul.
The Black Dog Standard
Black Dog Homes carries Cash’s name because he carries the spirit of the work. The standard is simple:
Show up.
Stay loyal.
Build honest.
Fit the block.
Respect the land.
Take care of the people.
That’s the code I build by, and it’s the truth behind every project with my name on.
About
Alan Young
Black Dog Homes was built by Alan Young, a native Atlantan and second‑generation builder who’s spent 30 years working tight lots, hard soil, and long days in the neighborhoods that raised him. This isn’t theory—it’s early mornings, real tools, and learning by doing. The work focuses on small homes, studios, and backyard spaces that fit the block and help artists, makers, and working folks stay rooted in a city that’s always trying to push them out. Black Dog Homes believes in showing up, building with intention, and taking care of the ground you’re standing on. The name reflects a loyal jobsite companion and a belief in honest, attentive work.
Cash rides with me through all of it. Named after the Man in Black, he’s loyal, steady, and a little rough around the edges—half working dog, half service dog, all heart. We spend our days moving between job sites and the city’s forests, parks, and rivers. Atlanta’s built that way, and so are we.
What drives me now is simple: building attainable places for the artists, musicians, makers, and working folks who give this city its soul. Small homes that fit the block. Studios that give people room to work. Backyards ready for an ADU when life calls for more. Spaces that help people stay rooted instead of pushed out.
Black Dog Homes carries Cash’s name because he carries the spirit of the work—show up, stay loyal, pay attention, and take care of the ground you’re standing on. That’s how I build, and that’s the truth behind this company.
Cash, the dog who shows up with me
Cash got his name from the Man in Black — a nod to grit, loyalty, and a little bit of outlaw spirit. He’s been with me through every season of this work, riding shotgun in the same truck, ready to jump out and get to it. He’s equal parts working dog and service dog, steady in a way only a good dog can be. Some days he’s helping me walk a lot line or check a foundation; other days he’s the one keeping me grounded, reminding me to breathe, to move, to keep going.
We spend our days in Atlanta, the city‑in‑a‑forest — working job sites, then slipping into the parks, the trails, the creeks, the Chattahoochee. Cash knows every river bend and every patch of shade in this town. He works hard and plays hard, and he’s grateful for both. So am I.
Black Dog Homes carries his name because he carries the spirit of the work: show up, stay loyal, pay attention, and take care of the place you’re standing. That’s how I build — small homes, studios, and backyard spaces shaped with care for the land, the neighbors, and the people who will live there.
Cash is the reminder that every day is a gift: another chance to get in the truck, put in honest work, and explore the city we love.
